Experience a tranquil escape in a historic port town

Habu Port, located about 30 minutes by car from central Motomachi in Oshima, is a charming seaside town that preserves the nostalgic charm of old Japan. Along the bay, quaint streets lined with small shops, cafés, and inns create a picturesque and evocative scene.

From there, a staircase overlooking the bay leads you upward, and within five minutes of reaching the top, you'll arrive at Rohan—tucked away in a quiet, secluded corner. From the outside, it may appear to be just an ordinary house, but step inside and you’ll discover an enchanting, elegant space. Evocative of a bygone Western-style mansion, it exudes both mystery and timeless sophistication.
A Private Sanctuary for Up to Two Groups and Five Guests

The first thing that will take your breath away is the living room—every wall is lined with 3,000 books. While most are in Japanese, you're welcome to bring your own and enjoy a quiet, immersive reading experience—a truly luxurious way to spend your time. For remote workers, this distinctive setting may offer the perfect atmosphere for focus and creativity, transforming work into an inspiring experience.

One of the true joys of travel lies in the conversations sparked within this unique space. Whether you're with family, a partner, close friends—or even sharing a serendipitous moment with the other guests—you may find yourselves talking late into the night, surrounded by books and creating memories to last a lifetime.
Find a peaceful sanctuary to rest and rejuvenate

The inn offers both Western-style and Japanese-style bedrooms. The Western room features two comfortable single beds, ensuring a restful night’s sleep in a peaceful setting.
In the Japanese-style room, guests sleep on traditional futons laid out on tatami flooring. For those seeking an authentic Japanese experience, spending a night on a futon is a must. A small desk is also provided, offering a quiet space to work, jot down a journal entry, or even write a heartfelt letter—adding a thoughtful, personal touch to your stay.
A Spacious Kitchen for a Cozy Home-Cooked Meal

One of Rohan’s standout features is its kitchen, allowing guests to prepare their own meals. Fully equipped with essential cookware and basic seasonings, it’s ideal for longer stays or for those with specific dietary needs.
While there are a few restaurants around Habu Port, availability can be limited or reservations hard to come by. In such cases, having a private kitchen adds a layer of comfort and flexibility—letting you enjoy a meal whenever it suits you.

ROHAN is built around a unique concept: located in Habu Port—once a beloved retreat for writers and artists—it now stands as a beautifully restored inn. What was once an abandoned house has been transformed into a warm and inviting haven, infused with the charm of Taisho Romanticism, a cultural movement from Japan’s Taisho era (1912–1926) that blended Western modernism with traditional Japanese aesthetics.
Step into a world of nostalgia, wander the historic streets of Habu, and savor the serenity of this thoughtfully reimagined retreat. If you long to immerse yourself in a timeless atmosphere, we warmly welcome you to stay.
