Born and bred on Oshima, manager Takano started Chalon to serve delicious cakes and sweets to the people of Oshima. Opening in 2002, it quickly went viral and attracted more and more customers. Not only can you find cakes made with local ingredients but also local souvenirs. Baumkuchen shaped like one of the most famous sightseeing spots on Oshima makes for a great gift. Plain and locally produced Ashitaba (Angelica) flavours are available. Almond cookies, inspired by the lava of Mount Mihara, are also very popular as gifts.

Mihara volcanic crater puff. Take a bite of this volcanic crater and experience melting chocolate like lava. Beside this, Ashitaba (Angelica) sponge cake(castella) comes also highly recommended. Finally, Oshima cherry flower castella cake made with salted petals, and Oshima milk pudding made from real Oshima milk both have a strong fanbase.

Chalon also offers pizza for lunch.

Apart from sweets, there is also an extensive lunch menu. Recommended are pizzas made with vegetables, seaweed, and ashitaba leaf (Angerica leaf) from the island. These are some unique pizzas that you can't get anywhere else. Due to heat from lava plates laid out in the oven and the far-infrared rays generated in abundance from the lava lumps, the pizza is cooked from the centre, quickly and at a high temperature, making it crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. A rare combination of pizza and minced cutlet comes from the “Ugai Shoten” in the Habu harbor area, known for their excellent fried foods, is another unique dish. Feel like having a break? Drop by at Chalon, you will definitely enjoy our lovely cakes.
